Day by day itinerary

Day 1 will start with a welcome meeting, where you will get all final information and materials for your trip. If you choose to rent bikes with us, this will also be the day when we will fit the bike to your needs. We recommend to follow the day rides like we suggest, but since you will be center-based, you can choose on your own what ride to do. If you come early we invite you to explore ride to the most visited waterfall in Slovenia; the Savica waterfall. The ride is designed in a way, that you will experience almost the entire Bohinj area, including upper and lower valley, lake area and Voje valley. This tour will also help you in the upcoming days to get around the area, find your perfect spot for a swim in the Bohinj lake, choose where to take the perfect photo, or discover many traditional restaurants and inns.

This day is reserved for gravel roads on the famous Pokljuka plateau, alpine meadows and untouched nature. The day will start with a climb up to the plateau and when the climb eases off, you can stop for a break, coffee and strudel in a typical mountain hut. The ride will continue across the meadows and pastures, with amazing views, so make sure to have a full battery on your phone or camera. You will also ride through the higher lying villages of the Bohinj valley and finish the day with a beautiful descent back to the valley.

On day 3 you will ride below the southern Bohinj mountains and enjoy the amazing views on the lake Bohinj and entire valley. After the ride you will have enough time to relax by the lake and try some extra activities that the valley can offer.

Day 4 is a big day, because you will cross the Pokljuka plateau and ride along the Sava river all the way to Radovljica town. After a stop in the medieval old town you will ride to world famous lake Bled that is a must see when visiting the area. After the stop in Bled you will ride back to your accommodation in Bohinj valley.

Biking on day 6 will be dedicated to another forest plateau - Jelovica. You will ride beautiful gravel roads all the way to village Drazgose, where you can visit one of the most famous WW2 monuments in Slovenia. The ride will then take you to small village Jamnik from where you get one of the best views on the Gorenjska region, Kamnik-Savinja Alps and the Karavanke mountain group. A beautiful descent will bring you to Kropa - the home of ironworks and nails. You can visit the Iron forging museum in the village or take a stop for coffee and lunch. Soon you will climb back to Jelovica plateau, admire the amazing views during your ride and finish your return back to Bohinj valley with a nice descent. A big ride, that will stay in your memories for a long time.

On this day we suggest that you put your bike on the train and go for a ride in the world famous Soca valley. Just a short train ride will bring you to Most na Soci where you will start your biking towards Tolmin town. Close by is a famous Tolminka river gorge and we strongly advise to visit it. It will take you approx. 1h walking to explore the gorge so make sure your footwear will be right. After the gorge visit you will ride though picturesque villages all the way to Kobarid town. There you can visit one of the most known WW1 museums, hike to Kozjek waterfall and have a break in the town centre. If you like good food Kobarid is the place to be in Slovenia. Close by is Hisa Franko - the 2 star Michelin restaurant so you can treat yourself on the last bike ride with an amazing meal. Our food tip would be a traditional shepherds dish from the valley called "frika". After the stop in Kobarid you ride back along the Soca river to the train station at Most na Soci and from there you return back to Bohinj valley.

For the last day of your gravel riding we suggest you to cross the Jelovica plateau again and spend you time exploring Bled and its surrounding villages. On this day you have a perfect chance to also visit Bled castle or take a boat to the Bled island and ring the bell of wishes. While in Bled make also sure to try the world famous "kremsnita", the cake that everyone should taste when visiting Bled. You can ride back to Bohinj valley or take the train and shorten your final ride.

Available dates:

Ideal time for this cycling trip is between April and October. We have various options from self-catered apartments to cyclist friendly hotels for overnights on this tour so the availability depends on the accommodation availability. Please let us know your preferred date at grega@hikeandbike.si.
